Il Tornitore Matto

Conceived by Alberto Alessi with Giulio Iacchetti, Il Tornitore Matto is a new brand created for the pleasure of discovering new territories where designers and entrepreneur are free to establish the rules of the creative process autonomously. If there is an aim, it is to place an accent on the experimental formulation of the industrial model that has distinguished the galaxy of design investigations Alessi has fostered over the years.

Coppa Camuna

The profile of the bowl designed by Giulio Iacchetti evokes a helmet, but it is upturned, open towards the sky: it is a gentle artifact to contain the things of life.

“I have always been fascinated by the lathe. At Alessi, this tool lies at the origin of our trade as metalworkers, in the early 20th century. I am in awe of the humanizing and intimate dimension of this work. Each artisan has a large set of tools to guide the metal disk against the shape, specifically made for them, tailored to their stature and strength. I am also attracted to the rotating movement. Like the planets of the universe, the lathe works with spinning shapes”.

“Objects originate from a rotational movement that, once unclamped from the mandrel, we hope can retain some of their centrifugal force to scatter in different directions. They are the expression of the individual identities, tastes, and inclinations of each designer, a micro-universe of very diverse artifacts. They evoke a world where dreams, like in the best fairy tales, come true».
